Year 7 French Adventure: Stantonbury Students Explore the Historic Streets of Lille

A whistle-stop day trip filled with cultural immersion, sweet treats, and outstanding representation of our school values.

Our wonderful Year 7 students embarked on an unforgettable cross-channel day trip to the beautiful city of Lille, France. It was an action-packed, fast-paced journey, and our students proved themselves to be exceptional ambassadors for Stantonbury School every step of the way!

Soaking in French Culture and History

The adventure began with a sensory journey through the Halles de Wazemmes, a bustling traditional covered market, where students experienced the vibrant sights, sounds, and smells of local French commerce.

From there, the group traveled deeper into the heart of the city, standing in awe of the stunning architecture at the historic Grand Place and the grand facade of the Palais des Beaux-Arts.

Of course, no trip to France is complete without sampling the local delicacies! There were smiles all around as the students treated themselves to world-famous chocolates from Le Lautrec and enjoyed delicious, historic treats from the famous Méert ice cream stand.

Living Our Values Abroad

Throughout this rapid-fire excursion, our Year 7s didn’t just observe French culture—they actively lived out the core values of Stantonbury School:

  • Intellectual Curiosity: Students eagerly put their French language classroom skills to the test, confidently ordering their own treats and interacting politely with market stallholders.
  • Genuine Kindness & Authentic Integrity: Our year group represented the school brilliantly on an international stage. They looked out for one another, kept spirits high, and showed immense respect to the local residents and shopkeepers.
  • Determined Excellence: Travel days are demanding, but our students stayed enthusiastic, focused, and energized through every single hour of a very packed itinerary.

A True Test of Endurance!

An excursion of this scale is no small feat. The journey began with a bright and early departure at 3:00 AM and concluded with a tired but happy arrival back at school at 1:00 AM the following morning. Taking a 22-hour travel day in their stride is a massive achievement for our Year 7s.

"A massive thank you to all of the dedicated staff members who gave up their time to make this brilliant trip possible, and a huge well done to Year 7. You were fantastic ambassadors for Stantonbury School!"
