Student Absence:

Celebrating Lunar New Year: A Showcase of Culture and Creativity at Stantonbury School

Our classrooms were transformed into vibrant hubs of culture and tradition last term as students across Key Stage 3 celebrated the Lunar New Year. The project provided a fantastic opportunity for students to immerse themselves in Eastern heritage while demonstrating incredible artistic flair and focus.

Students delved into specific traditional techniques, producing high-quality work that now brightens our school corridors:

  • Year 7 | The Art of Paper Cutting: Our youngest students mastered the delicate craft of Jianzhi. This traditional art form requires immense precision, and our Year 7s rose to the challenge, creating intricate red designs that symbolize luck, hidden meanings, and prosperity for the year ahead.
  • Years 8 & 9 | New Year Paintings: Our older students explored the bold world of traditional painting. They focused on vibrant color palettes and symbolic imagery to welcome the Year of the Horse, producing expressive canvases that captured the energy of the festival.

Beyond learning new artistic methods—from the steady hand required for paper cuts to the fluid brushstrokes of Chinese painting—the project encouraged students to engage with the meanings behind these global traditions.

"The quality of work produced this term has been outstanding," noted the Art Department. "It was fantastic to see the students so engaged; they didn't just learn a skill, they truly enjoyed the process of bringing these cultural traditions to life."

We would like to say a huge "Well Done" to every student involved. Your hard work, dedication to detail, and enthusiasm for learning about the wider world have made this a standout highlight of the Spring term.
