Stantonbury School students have officially kicked off a new Gardening Club initiative aimed at transforming unused school grounds into a vibrant, sustainable green space and hands-on learning hub.
The club’s opening session saw an enthusiastic turnout as students got straight to work clearing litter, weeding overgrown areas, and building a brand-new compost heap to kickstart the site’s soil restoration.
The hard work paid off immediately with an exciting bonus discovery: several local frogs had already made the garden site their home, giving students a firsthand look at the biodiversity they hope to foster.
Looking ahead, the Gardening Club has big ambitions for the site.
Key projects on the horizon include:
- An Eco-Greenhouse: Built entirely from repurposed plastic bottles to teach sustainable construction and recycling.
- Hydroponics System: Introducing students to modern, soil-free agricultural technology.
- Fruit, Vegetable & Herb Gardens: Establishing raised planters to grow fresh, organic produce on school grounds.
How You Can Help
To bring these ambitious plans to life, Stantonbury School is calling on parents, carers, and the wider local community for support.
If you have any of the following items to spare, donations would be greatly appreciated:
- Clean, clear plastic bottles (for the eco-greenhouse)
- Fruit, vegetable, or herb seeds and saplings
- Pots, planters, or unused garden equipment
Donations can be dropped off at main reception during school hours.
Thank you for helping our students grow a greener future for Stantonbury School!
